UTM builder
What it’s for
Builds a tracked link that GA4 reads correctly, with readable names. Works for ads, posts, email, bio links and QR codes.
How to use
- Click Templates and answer the questions with a click. Almost everything fills in on its own.
- Paste the landing page URL, without parameters.
- Adjust anything you want in the fields. Source and medium follow the platform standard, in lowercase. Copy, QR and save unlock only when source, medium and campaign are filled in.
- Copy the finished link or download the QR. To keep it in your history, sign in.
Tip
Always use the same campaign name across every channel: that’s how GA4 groups the results into a single row. Advanced mode shows the raw parameters and how GA4 reads them.

What the UTM builder does
The UTM builder creates the campaign link with utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign in the format Google Analytics 4 classifies. You paste the URL, choose the channel and the objective, and it gives you the link, the URL parameters to paste into the ad and the campaign name in your team’s naming convention.
What sets it apart from a regular UTM builder is the channel preview. It applies the official rules of the GA4 Default channel group and shows, before you publish, whether the click will land in Paid Social, Paid Search, Email, Organic Social or Unassigned. For Meta Ads, Google Ads and TikTok, it already uses each platform’s macros, such as {{campaign.name}} and {campaignid}, so the campaign name and ID come through on their own.
How to use
- Paste the landing page URL. Paste the address of the page that will receive the click, without UTMs.
- Choose the channel and the campaign. Choose the channel (Meta Ads, Google Ads, TikTok, email, WhatsApp, print and more), the objective and what the campaign promotes.
- Copy and publish. Copy the link or the URL parameters and paste them into the ad. The predicted GA4 channel shows up before you publish.
Frequently asked questions
What is a UTM?
UTMs are parameters added to the end of a link, such as utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign, that tell Google Analytics where each visit came from. Without them, a click from an ad, email or post can land in Direct or Unassigned, and the campaign disappears from the report.
Which UTM parameters are required?
For GA4 to attribute the visit to a campaign, use at least utm_source (where it comes from), utm_medium (the type of media) and utm_campaign (the campaign name). utm_id, utm_content and utm_term are optional and separate campaign, asset and keyword.
Why does my traffic land in Unassigned in GA4?
Because the source and medium combination doesn’t match any rule in the GA4 Default channel group. Example: utm_source=Facebook Ads with utm_medium=CPC lands in Paid Other, not in Paid Social. The builder shows the predicted channel before you publish.
Does capitalization matter in UTMs?
Yes. GA4 is case sensitive, so facebook, Facebook and FB become three rows in the report. The builder standardizes the case, swaps spaces for hyphens and warns you when the source isn’t on GA4’s list.
Do I need UTMs in Google Ads?
With auto-tagging on, gclid wins over UTMs in GA4. UTMs still matter for other tools and reports, and the builder creates the Google Ads final URL suffix with the right ValueTrack parameters.
Is the UTM builder free?
Yes. You get 4 links per day: the first 2 with no sign-up and 2 more with a free account, no card required. If you build links every week, Pro unlocks 30 per day for US$ 9.90 a month.
